“Though they don’t offer mobility or have restricted mobility, getting someone to call on your office desk is the best practice and safer for business,” Sapra says.
Mobile telephony — that helped bring about a revolution in India about 15 years ago, enabling a faster business environment — is now unable to keep pace because of the poor quality of services.
A recent Hindustan Times-C fore survey shows cellphones have become more of an obstacle. About 63 per cent respondents said ‘call drops’ — getting disconnected before the call gets over — had seriously affected their businesses. Three out of five small businessmen said they faced call drops in two to three out of 10 calls.
“When you want to make an important call, you are unable to do it,” said Abhay Khanna, who works in his family-owned RMS Ltd, a Delhi-based power equipment manufacturer.
The problem is similar in the four metros. Mumbai has the worst track record — almost nine out of 10 subscribers said they faced call drops two to four times out of 10 calls.
