THE LAW department of the Allahabad University on Thursday celebrated Legal Literacy Day under the chairmanship of dean faculty of law Prof HN Tiwari.

Prof RK Sinha, former head and dean, was chief the guest. Dr JS Singh, in-charge of the programme, introduced the subject. Students of the department presented their views on ‘Law and Poverty and the Role of Legal Aid in Access of Social Justice’.
The students, who spoke on the occasion, cited examples from the Constitution, the Cr PC and various judicial pronouncements made by the Supreme Court.
Introducing the topic, Dr JS Singh, spoke about the utility of the programme and said items made of plastics should be discarded. He urged the students and those present on the occasion to ensure that they would not take tea or meal from any such places where children below 14 years were employed. Addressing the gathering, Prof RK Singh dwelt upon the quality of law and expressed hope that if there was a law and there was a hole in it.
The legal fraternity must take proper steps to plug that hole before the unscrupulous elements could misuse it.
