As the race entered the final two weeks, the two campaigns began their closing arguments with President Barack Obama releasing Tuesday a plan for his second term.
Republican challenger Mitt Romney made his case in three new ads restating his promise of more jobs, no defence cuts, deficit reduction and a strong US leadership.
The two candidates, their running mates, spouses and surrogates crisscrossed the country, specially the battleground states Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida and Nevada.
President Obama kicks off Wednesday a two-day non-stop tour of battleground states Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, Florida and Virginia. And will stop in Chicago, Illinois to cast his vote.
Voting is underway in many states, with more joining in coming days in what is called Early Voting — in-person voting at special polling booths and by mail. That’s the vote both campaigns are striving to catch now. Obama campaign manager Jim Messina claimed the president was leading among early voters.
Obama’s 20-page plan for the second term is in part an appeal to the remaining undecided voters, and critics, who have long complained he doesn’t have a plan. It contains nothing new, nor does it claim so. It talks about progress middle class and out, growing small businesses, boosting energy production, focussing on manufacturing jobs and education.
“I’ve laid out a plan for jobs and middle-class security. And unlike Romney, I’m actually proud to talk about what’s in it,” Obama said at a campaign. “And by the way,” he added, “the math in my plan adds up.”
