They were enraged at the delay in issuance of admit cards for entrance test for admission scheduled for June 15. Over half a dozen student leaders also participated in the vandalism.

They damaged the office furniture and even tried to manhandle the dean faculty of arts and coordinator of the entrance test Prof KC Lal. However, research scholars Ramesh Chand Tripathi and others saved Prof Lal. The university administration has made no security arrangements despite the repeated reminders by the coordinator of entrance test.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaiprakash said that the date for entrance test scheduled for June 15 was deferred to June 17 after ensuring distribution of all the admit cards.

Around 15,000 students would take the entrance test on June 15 at 27 examination centres in the city.

They gheraoed the examination coordinator.

Earlier, long queues was witnessed at all the counters but no proper arrangement was made to distribute the admit cards.

Following the incident, the coordinator of examination tendered his resignation to the V-C. Later, on the V-C’s request, he decided to continue on the post.

However, Lal raised strong objection to the fact that the chief proctor of the university was out of station and no proper security arrangement was made despite brewing resentment among the students.

Lal said that due to apathetic attitude of the post office the admit cards could not be delivered to the applicants in time. He said that most admit cards were available on the university website. He claimed that all the admit cards were despatched on June 7.
