THE CANDIDATES vying for the post mayor in the city have intensified their campaign.

The contestants, belonging the various political parties, visited different localities on Friday, seeking people’s support.

Following the withdrawal of nominations, now 18 candidates are left in the fray for the post of mayor and 619 candidates are vying for the post of corporators.

The Rotary Club, at its meeting on Thursday, decided to support Congress’s mayoral candidate Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh. Rotary members praised the qualities of Singh.

The teachers of the pre-primary schools of CMP College women’s branch, too, supported the candidature of Singh who visited various localities including Daraganj and Civil Lines to seek people’s support.

The Samajwadi Party did not lag behind in the campaigning. At a meeting, held at Daraganj under the presidentship of KK Srivastava, Mahanagar unit chief, the party chalked out an election strategy.

Party’s mayoral candidate Vinod Chandra Dubey participated in the meeting. The SP workers campaigned for him in Kareli, Atala, Clock Tower, Subzi Mandi, Attarsuiya, Loknath and several other areas.

United Democratic Front nominee for mayor’s post Rajiv Agrawal also launched an intensive campaign in Teliarganj, Gaughat, Kydganj, Bahadurganj, Bairahna, Muthiganj, Malaviya Nagar and other places seeking people’s support. He said he was contesting mayoral poll to provide basic amenities to citizens.

They tried to file a false affidavit so that he withdrew his nomination, he said.
