A six-week relief (from January 23) notwithstanding, banks operating from non-commercial premises of Noida are not upbeat. They say it will be "extremely tough" to get plots, build strong rooms, buildings and relocate in "a short span of time".
"We understand that once banks can get plots, they can approach the court and seek time for construction. As things stand now, if we don't move out by March 5, our premises will be sealed. Where do we take our assets and lockers? The authority has delayed relocation plans. Tomorrow is the last date for applying for plots. Shifting operational banks will be very difficult," said Arun Kumar, a representative of affected banks.
Branch manager of Indian Bank in sector 19, Ashok Kumar, said, "Our primary concern is the safety and security of our clients' assets. Building strong rooms for lockers will take at least two months. It has to be done according to RBI guidelines. We can't be casual."
Another staff of the bank, Santosh Singh, said, "Authority officials were so rude on Wednesday that they didn't even let us switch off the lights and other electrical appliances, and sealed the entire area. Short circuits could have led to damages. We can't cut power supply as our server needs 24 hours supply."
