UP nod to rural job guarantee scheme
A DAY after the UP Congress Committee (UPCC) held demonstrations against laxity in implementation of the UPA Government’s ambitious scheme, the State Cabinet gave its nod to implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.

CM Mulayam Singh Yadav presided over the Cabinet meeting that considered the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and decided to implement the same in the State. Chief Secretary NC Bajpai said a State Employment Guarantee Council to be headed by the chief secretary would be constituted under the provisions of the Act.

Bajpai said the scheme was being implemented in 22 districts. These include 15 districts covered under food for work programme, he said adding a sum of Rs 130 crore had been allocated for the purpose. The Cabinet also approved one time settlement scheme for those who had drawn loans under Integrated Margin Money Loan scheme and the loans drawn from district industry centres. The State Cabinet also gave its nod to allocation of 215 country liquor and six Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops that would earn an investment of Rs 50 crore and Rs 1 crore to the State exchequer, respectively.
