The 2001 champion, winner of three grand slam titles and the sole survivor of the pre-tournament favourites, will be high on confidence having beaten former world number one and fellow American Serena Williams in the quarter-finals.

Capriati holds a 5-1 record over Russian number one Myskina from their six previous meetings, including a two-set win in Berlin earlier this month.

Another Russian, ninth seed Elena Dementieva, takes on Argentine doubles specialist Paola Suarez, the 14th seed, in the other semi-final.

Dementieva is the only other semi-finalist to have reached the last four in a grand slam before, having lost to American Lindsay Davenport in the semi-finals of the US Open in 2000.

Suarez will be hoping to emulate Gabriela Sabatini, the last Argentine woman to reach a grand slam final, at Wimbledon in 1991.
