He said customers will be required to keep Rs 990 as security deposit to obtain a set-top box from a multi-system operator and Rs 30 per month to access free-to-air channels.

The rates for pay channels will need to be cleared by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Dasmunsi told the Rajya Sabha during the question hour.

At present, cable operators charge between Rs 150 to 200 per month from a household, he said.
