A case was registered by the police on Sunday against Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Secretary Bikash Barua for appealing to the ULFA not to disturb an India-Pakistan One-Day International in Guwahati last year.
The case followed an FIR filed by the Assam Public Works (APW), an NGO comprising of relatives of ULFA members opposed to violence.
APW Secretary Abhijit Sarma had filed the FIR on March 21 alleging that the ACA secretary had published an advertisement in a local daily on November 2, 2007 appealing to the ULFA to ensure that the India-Pakisatan ODI on November five that year passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
Sarma alleged that the ULFA was a banned outfit and an official of a prominent sports body has violated the law by appealing to an outlawed organisation, police said.
The police registered a case numbered 130/08 under Section 10/13 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
ACA Secretary Barua was not available for comment.
