A POLICE party on Monday searched the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in the wake of a report that 14 cashbooks containing transaction worth Rs 4 crore over the last six years and some files went missing from an almirah of the protocol office. Rajesh Mishra, a deputy secretary-level officer posted in CM Secretariat, was earlier posted as the protocol officer for the past one decade.
The search created a sensation in the Mantralaya as it was probably the first time when the police entered the CM Secretariat in connection with a theft case. Earlier, the police party also searched the General Administration Department.
As the matter concerns the CM Secretariat, the State Government has directed Bhopal Range IG Sanjeev Singh to constitute a special team and submit a report within 48 hours.
The GAD has also ordered an administrative inquiry by Principal Secretary, Commercial Tax, G P Singhal. According to Mantralaya sources, there are no signs of tempering with the almirah.
Surprisingly, fingerprint experts found no impressions on the almirah. The thief is suspected to have cleaned his fingerprints after stealing the cashbooks, which were in the almirah till September 30.
The security staff posted in Mantralaya is also being grilled. According to the Jehangirabad police, a complaint was received on phone about the theft of 14 cashbooks from the almirah of 424-C of GAD. A case of trespass and theft has been registered on the complaint of assistant protocol officer Rajesh Gupta.
