The ongoing strike by doctors of government hospitals is alarming as patients are suffering for want of medicine and timely attention. This is all due to the government’s reservation policy for OBCs. Why is the PM silent? This is not the solution to help the OBCs. Merit cannot be compromised on the basis of caste. The Centre should not compromise the future of meritorious students for vote bank politics.

Our politicians are following the British policy of ‘divide and rule’ even after 58 years of Independence. Instead of abolishing the caste system and ensuring equality for all, we want to widen the chasm by seeking reservations. Is there any country in the world where admissions and appointments are made on the basis of caste? I am not against helping the poor but we should give them quality education at the school level so that they can compete on an equal footing.

Convict the rapists
This refers to the editorial Relief, but not enough (May 15). The rise in the number of rape cases is an unfortunate phenomenon. Though the government is planning to compensate the victims, unless those found guilty are strictly punished, justice would be partially done.

Make the city safe
The report ‘Nagged’ domestic kills elderly woman (May 16) and the murder of a Padma Bhushan awardee recently only indicates that the capital is run by criminals and not by any government. Strict policing with people’s cooperation can make Delhi a safe place to live in.

Widening the gap
The increasing number of billionaires may indicate that India is growing rich. But the reality is different. This is because the gap between the rich and those who live below the poverty line has also increased.
A mere increase in currency in the hands of a few would only make them rich and does not indicate the actual development of the nation as a whole.
