Bhagwas Das, a potato trader of Kaushambi district was gunned down near the CPC godown under the Collectorganj police station. After killing him, the hoodlums made good their escape with the booty of Rs 4 lakh, which the slain trader had withdrawn from a bank.

Senior leader of the organisation Gyanesh Mishra apprised the SSP of the anger within the trader community of the city over the incident.

Mishra demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and adequate security arrangements at Collectorganj to prevent any such incident in future.

However, this is not an isolated incident of a trader being killed in Collectorganj. On March 27, two anti-socials killed two traders and escaped with the booty of Rs 2.5 lakh. Similarly, on April 6, desperadoes duped a pulses mill employee of Rs 2.5 lakh at the Collectorganj grain market.

Members of the delegation also demanded a picket in the market and deployment of extra police force to prevent such incidents in future.

According to the traders, the SSP expressed his helplessness since more than 1000 police personnel had been deputed for election duty in other districts of the State. He, however, assured the traders that a picket duty of police in the Collectorganj grain market would be set up soon. The SSP also promised extra vigil in the market and asked the traders to hold monthly meeting with him.

After meeting the SSP, the traders convened a meeting and decided to give one week’s time to the Collectorganj police to nab the killers.

“Following the SSP’s assurance, we have decided to give a week’s time to the police to make the necessary arrests. We will decide on future course of action in case the cops keep groping in the dark,” said Mishra.
