Smoking indeed turned out to be injurious for the family members of Yogesh Shah (name changed), 17, who was so scared of being seen smoking by a family friend that he fled his house. He was tracked down to a luxury bus in Ratnagiri on Monday by the Shivaji Park police, after his family registered a missing complaint on Saturday night.
On July 14, Shah, a first year junior college student, was smoking a cigarette with his friends. “Shah’s family was not aware that their son smoked. When he was caught smoking by a family friend, he was scared. Shah suspected his family would come to know about his bad habit,” said SS Yadav, sub inspector from Shivaji Park police station.
Shah went home, but he was frightened. “Shah feared that his family could come to know about it any moment. He decided to go away for a few days, till the situation eased out,” added Yadav.
Shah informed a friend, Saurabh Singh (name changed) about the incident, and requested him to go to Goa with him for some days. Singh suggested they go to his native place in Malwan as Goa would be expensive. The duo left on Saturday evening without informing anyone. Shah’s parents approached the police when he did not come home till Saturday night.
As the investigation was on, Singh called up his friend, which provided an important lead to the police. The call was traced to a public booth in Ratnagiri. “The booth owner told us that two teenaged boys had made the call and had just taken a bus to Mumbai. We found that the bus was on its way to the city,” added Yadav.
