Commuters travelling on the Signature Tower flyover on Saturday will have to brace for a minor diversion. To decongest the busy Signature Tower crossing on the Gurgaon expressway, the traffic police will experiment with a new arrangement.
As per the plan, vehicles coming from Iffco Chowk on the service lane, and wanting to go straight towards Rajiv Chowk or Jaipur on NH-8, will have to take a compulsory left and then a U-turn in front of Huda Gymkhana Club to come back to the main expressway carriageway.
Mostly office-goers and visitors to the Silokhra IT SEZ, Star Mall, Park Centra, Star Commercial Towers will have to take a short detour of 100 metres If the experiment is found to be effective on Saturday, the new arrangement will be put in place permanently from Monday, said DCP (traffic) Bharti Arora.
This, she said, will ensure that traffic does not halt on the service lane as motorists have to wait for up to 10 minutes at the traffic signal.
According to experts, however, the experiment will not be very effective unless the slip roads towards Signature Tower are widened as the diverted vehicles will have to ultimately merge with traffic coming from Huda City Centre Metro station. Also, Rajiv Chowk-bound diverted traffic and those wanting to take a left turn will have to be segregated into separate lanes. “We will look into all aspects of the problem on Saturday after the experiment,” said Arora.

{{/usCountry}}A similar arrangement has been presently implemented by the traffic police at Shankar Chowk for traffic coming from Ambience Mall side.
Unlike at Signature Tower crossing where space for taking a u-turn in front of the Huda Gymkhana Club is limited, traffic diverted at Shankar Chowk has enough room to take a detour around the Infinity Towers in DLF Cyber City.
The traffic police also plan to try out a new diversion plan at Iffco Chowk. Motorists driving on the right lane will have to take a mandatory U-turn and those in the left lane will go straight. Traffic on the middle lane will have a choice to either go straight or take a U-turn.
Interestingly, the traffic police have revised the penalty amount. Arora said any lane violation will attract a penalty for dangerous driving (Rs 1,000-1,500) and not the usual challan of Rs 100.
