The two tribunal members NS Rao and Sudheer Narain, who had directed the Centre to form an expert committee to give a report on the cropping pattern and the water requirements of riparian states, should be immediately sacked, CPI state Secretary D Pandian told reporters in Chennai.

In the coming Parliament session, the CPI would demand bringing a River Nationalisation Bill.

It would also meet the leaders of all the political parties in Tamil Nadu to seek their approval for this.

Cauvery Delta farmers in Tamil Nadu need not get unduly perturbed over the issue and should remain calm, he said.

Pandian expressed shock over the Centre's decision to import 30 lakh tons of wheat and said the government was already allowing import of cooking oil, pulses and lentils of various kinds.

Earlier, Pandian and another CPI leader C Mahendran released an audio-cassette for use during campaigning for the May 8 assembly polls.
