Bishnoi has been evading repeated summons issued by the agency for questioning. According to documents with the CBI, Bhanwari Devi — who went missing on September 1 and is suspected to have been murdered — was blackmailing Malkhan Singh, who is a suspect in her disappearance.

Earlier in the day, the CBI grilled Malkhan Singh’s three sons and two daughters-in-law at the Circuit House on the whereabouts of the MLA. On Monday evening, his elder son Mahendra informed officials that his father was on his way to meet them.

The MLA, eventually appeared at the Circuit House here, but when he remained uncooperative sleuths arrested him, CBI sources said.

In a written statement to the CBI last week, Bhanwari Devi’s husband Amar Chand claimed that Malkhan Singh was the biological father of their third child. Former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna’s wife Leela was also quizzed in connection with the case. She said, “We have been a victim of media trial.”

Malkhan Singh’s sister, Indra Bishnoi, also one of the main suspects in the case and has been interrogated a number of times, is absconding. The Congress MLA’s brother Parasram Bishnoi has been arrested along with Maderna.
