CENTRAL BUREAU of Investigation (CBI) sleuths probing the sensational Ghazipur shootout case were now making all efforts to collect evidences against the alleged shooters named in the incident.
While the investigating team has vital facts against Mukhtar Ansari, the key conspirator behind the shootout, they have yet to substantiate the roles of shooters — Munna Bajrangi, Sanjiv Maheshwari and Ataur-Rehman. The shootout that took place on November 29 2005 had claimed the life of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and seven others.
Sources in the premier investigating agency revealed that don-turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari was giving a commentary to his aide Abhay Singh on mobile while his shooters were engaged in firing at Rai’s fleet in Ghazipur.
Ansari was telling Abhay how his ace shooter Munna Bajrangi and his team were opening fire with A-K series rifles and other state-of-the-art weapons.
Ansari was heard telling Abhay that he had made foolproof strategy for the attack on his archrival and this time his ‘boys’ would accomplish the job successfully.
That Ansari was the mastermind behind the attack was proved with a piece of conversation in which he was telling Abhay that he had asked his shooters to bring the tuft (choti) of Rai after shooting him dead and then only he (Ansari) would believe that the target was achieved.
The fact that Ansari continued giving non-stop commentary on the shootout on his mobile while staying behind bars established that his aides were sending him details about the shootout every moment. The shootout had lasted for about 20 minutes.

{{/usCountry}}However, despite having such strong evidences against Ansari the sleuths were still searching for corroborating facts against the shooters.
The CBI sleuths had visited Ghazipur jail several times and had quizzed Maheshwari where the latter is presently lodged. But, the cops failed to get any vital clue from Maheshwari during the course of interrogation.
Sources also revealed that the chargesheet filed with the CBI court though contain strong evidences against Ansari, it did not state the same establishing link of the alleged gangsters with the shootout.
