CBI registers five more FIRs in Vyapam scam

The total number of cases taken over by CBI ever since it took up Vyapam probe has gone up to 42.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered five more cases in connection with the Vyapam scam. Now the total number of cases taken over by CBI ever since it took up Vyapam probe has gone up to 42.

The first case pertains to cheating by impersonation in pre-medical test (PMT) 2010, which was registered in Jhansi Road police station in Gwalior, said the CBI spokesperson. Three persons are accused in this case. They have been charged under fraud, forgery and other sections of IPC including the MP Recognised Examination Act.

The second case is about cheating by impersonation in PMT 2009, which was also registered at the same police station. The third case is about cheating by impersonation in PMT 2010 and subsequent admission in MBBS, which was registered in Jabalpur's Garha police station.

The fourth case is regarding fraud in police constable recruitment examination conducted on September 30, 2012. The FIR in this regard was registered in Gautam Nagar police station in Bhopal in March this year and it has now been taken over by CBI.

In all, 42 cases have been registered by CBI ever since it took over the probe. Besides, CBI has instituted 11 preliminary enquiries (PE) into 19 deaths that are allegedly linked to the scam.
