A team of experts from Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences, led by the head of the institute’s forensic sciences department, Dr T.D. Dogra, conducted the post-mortems on the bodies. The team collected samples four months after the bodies of Nelofar Jan (22) and her sister-in-law Asiya Jan (17) were found in a stream in Shopian, 50 km south of Srinagar, on May 30.

The CBI is looking for clues that could help establish the cause of death. This in turn could solve the case over which people in Shopian had held protest demonstrations for 47 days running. The crime had also sparked protests in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley.

Monday’s development came a day after a doctor admitted to the CBI during questioning that she had fabricated the vaginal swabs of the two victims a day after she conducted the second post-mortem on them.
