The development comes a day after a city court on Wednesday had questioned the agency’s officers for allegedly ‘blindly’ accepting the versions of the accused while submitting a closure report.

While rejecting the CBI’s closure report in the case, the court had observed that it appeared to be more in the defence of the accused and ordered further investigation in the Vikash Metals case. “The officer was extremely dismayed and hurt by some of the observations and recused himself. He is reckoned to be a good investigator and was part of the agency team that had cracked the Noida Nithari-killings case of 2005-6,” said a CBI source.

The agency, meanwhile, may soon move an appeal in the Supreme Court (SC) against the court’s order rejecting the closure report and its alleged adverse remarks against the agency’s case investigators, said another CBI source. The source told HT, “There is a sense of dismay and demoralisation in the rank and file of the CBI due to the court’s remarks since they are the ones who put in their very best while probing its cases.”
