INDRAJEET SINGH of DPS Nighai, Sidhi won the first gold medal for the State in the CBSE national athletic meet that began today at Tatya Tope Stadium. The event is being organised by Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MVM), Ratanpur.
Over 3000 athletes from across the schools run by the CBSE are participating in the event. With the distance of 13.76 m, Inderjeet Singh stood first in the Under- 19 boys’ shot put category. Navdeep Singh of DIPS, Dhilwan had to be content with the second position in the same event. Prateesh Prajal, who hailed from GIS Kuwait, claimed the first medal for overseas team in the form of bronze in the same event.
In the girls’ Under- 19 long jump category, Liksy Joseph of Labour India Public School, Kottayam claimed gold medal. Jumping for 5.34 m, Joseph clinched the victory convincingly. The spectators witnessed a keen fight between Reena of Jhajjar and Swati Gupta of Ghaziabad for the second and third place respectively.
In the other events, Navjot Singh claimed gold in the Under- 16 boys’ long jump category. In the under -16 girls’ shot put category, Gurpreet Kaur won the gold.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier, chief guest of the opening ceremony, Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia declared the meet open. Addressing the gathering, she said that the State Government is committed to providing every possible support to development of sports.
Chairman, National Board of Directors, Girish Chandra Verma in his address said that fully conscious mind marks excellent performance and creates strong, indomitable influence of positivity and harmony in the world.
He announced to open Maharishi Sports Academy in the City. Students of MVM presented a colourful cultural programme. On the occasion Maharishi Vidya Mandir SN Rai, vice chairman Dr Prakash Chader Joshi, Brig GS Sandhu, Dr TC Pathak, Rajesh Mishra Mumtaz Malik Narendra Parmar and others were present.
