A notification to this effect was issued by the state human resources department on Thursday evening, official sources said.

State human resources secretary MM Jha said the measure had been long overdue and the government would implement it from 2007.

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) would conduct examinations this year as per the existing format, he said.

Under the CBSE format, students would have to study two language papers (mother tongue and second language), Science, Social Science, Mathematics and English.

The marks of English would not be calculated in the aggregate. There will be additional subjects which students could take as extras -- economics, commerce, home science, music and computers.

The new format would also include yoga, art education, work experience and health education for school-based evaluation.
