Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan and called for a "befitting reply" to ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, BJP national spokesman Prakash Javadekar said ceasefire violations in the past two months have become "unacceptable and time has come to give a befitting reply".
"If Pakistan does not desist (from these violations), there are ways to teach the neighbouring country a lesson so that it does not dare to repeat it," said Javadekar.
The BJP spokesman claimed around 200 ceasefire violations were reported from the state in the past two months.
"Pakistan army is resorting to firing and shelling, injuring soldiers and civilians, it is intolerable," he added.
Javadekar said Pakistan's policy is Kashmir-centric. "If there is any issue to be resolved (with Pakistan), it is terror emanating from its territory," he said.
The BJP leader claimed that talks between the two countries failed to yield any result. "When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Pakistan's premier Nawaz Sharif in New York, infiltration took place in the Keran sector of Kupwara and when chief minister Omar Abdullah and union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde visited the international border, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling. Pakistan should be told in clear terms that this would not do," Javadekar said.

Referring to a statement made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, wherein he expressed disappointment over ceasefire violations, the BJP spokesman said, "Pakistan will continue to disappoint you unless you take a concrete action, Mr Prime Minister," he said.
