Mobile towers around schools and educational institutions in the city have been posing a grave threat to the children's health. The city has witnessed a rise in the cases of memory loss in children and young students.
Officials of private schools as well as parents are worried a lot as children are more vulnerable to the radiation emanating from the cell towers. Radiation from mobile towers poses grave health risks including memory loss, lack of concentration and digestive disturbances.
There are about 500 mobile towers in the district. Out of these, about 300 towers fall in the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, while nearly 200 are erected in Huda areas. Besides, there are some illegal towers too. In September last year, the District Town and Country Planning Department identified 135 illegal cell towers in Gurgaon.
The worrying fact is that about 70% of the towers are in and around schools.
Dr Rajnish Kumar, senior neurologist at Paras Hospital, said, "About 60% of my patients who suffer from weak memory or memory loss are schoolchildren. In the past few years, most of the children have started facing this problem." Mobile towers are really a big threat, he added.
