Terming the announcement for constituting the Sixth Pay Commission as a positive step, Dubey said in the light of this positive signal from the government, JCM, an umbrella organisation of the union, had decided to postpone the strike.

Talking to mediapersons, Dubey said that a meeting of the office-bearers of the employees union was organised with the Prime Minister and the Union Government virtually agreed to redress the few demands of the employees, including cash payment of the interim relief funds. He claimed that a High Court judge would review the duty hours of train drivers and submit his report.

Dubey further said that the government agreed to constitute a committee for career improvement of the fourth class and workshop employees who would be entitled to the incentive bonus on Dearness Allowance. Responding to a question, Dubey claimed that on the intense pressure mounted by the Union Government Employees’ Association, the Union government had agreed to fulfil the long pending demands of the employees and on the assurance of the Prime Minister, the employees’ union had decided to postpone the strike. He said the initiative of the PM had shown his sincerity and his concern for the welfare of the common people. He expressed thanks to all the employees for their cooperation and solidarity in mounting pressure on the government.
