UNION MINISTER of State for Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation GK Wasan has praised the progress of MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme in the State, according to an official release.
He said that the progress under the scheme was above national average and the State stands 11th in the country in this respect, the release quoted the Union Minister.
Wasan expressed the hope that the MPs from the State would sanction more works and thereby obtain more funds under the scheme for development of their constituencies.
He was addressing a meeting on proper and full utilisation of MPLAD fund at Mantralaya on Wednesday. The Minister was informed that since the inception of the scheme in 1993 the State has received Rs. 823.04 crore and as against the total receipts the State has sanctioned works worth Rs. 819. 94 crore .
An amount of Rs. 777.13 crore has been utilised till date, which is approximately 94.4 percent of the total amount received and 61287 works have been sanctioned till date under the scheme.
Out of these, 57736 works have already been completed, which is 92.5 percent of the total sanctioned works. Budget utilisation in 27 of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies is 92 to 100 percent. In remaining two constituencies 90 percent
resources has been used.

Finance Minister Raghavji; Union Secretary of Planning and Statistics RC Panda; Director Ganeriwal; State’s Planning Board Secretary Manoj Jhalani, collectors of various districts, district planning officers and other concerning officers attended the meeting.
Finance Minister Raghavji suggested that under the present guidelines of the scheme contingent charges in the works of electrification should be permitted. He also suggested raising the limit of contingent charges from 0.5 percent to 1 percent, which, he said would facilitate execution of works at the district level.
District collectors and district planning officers shared the practical difficulties in implementation of the works under the scheme.
