Jaiswal said the centre was among the 60 centres authorised by the income tax department for e-filing of returns.
The services offered by the centre include accepting and processing of IT returns on 2D, 2E and 2F forms, issuance of PAN cards, allotment of TAN, accepting and digitising quarterly E-TDS/TCS returns, accepting annual information return (last date for which is August 31, 2006), accepting paper returns of income tax and digitisation of returns as per the requirements of the NSDL.
Jaiswal said the centre had eight computer terminals and the information provided by a person was fed into a computer after thorough checking.
The charges at the centre are as per the guidelines of the NSDL. A fee of Rs 67 is charged for PAN, Rs 56 for TAN, Rs 100 for e-TDS etc.
He said the centre had filed 2,500 tax deducted at source forms since its inauguration, processed 1500 PAN card applications, besides guiding hundreds of citizens in filing income tax returns.
Integrated Enterprise India Ltd (Chennai) senior manager G Sudershan said the NSDL had processed 8.2 lakh PAN Cards, 3.3 lakh TDS (quarterly), 1.2 lakh TAN, 1.4 lakh annual returns and 241 TFCs across the country. He said it was mandatory to have a PAN card for opening a DEMAT account.
DEMAT accounts which were operational without PAN cards would be frozen after September 1, 2006, he added.
He said bio-metric PAN cards would be issued very soon which would have a pre-recorded print of the retina card holder.
Tax Information Network and ERIN technical director, Vivek Jaiswal and operations manager Prem Prakash Rai and senior advocate Jagdish Tripathi were also present on the occasion.
