“It is a demand that has been raised by several political parties and several social organisations because the convicts have spent 25 years in prison and the case must be reviewed on humanitarian grounds and they must be released,” CPI national secretary D Raja said.

Raja’s reaction comes in the wake of media reports that the Centre has rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s plea to the Centre seeking release of convicts.

Seven people -- AG Perarivalan, V Sriharan, Jayakumar, T Suthendraraja, Robert Payas, Nalini and Ravichandran -- were convicted in the case.
