A meeting of the health ministers of dengue infested states was held under the chairmanship of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss at New Delhi to discuss the strategy on dengue control.

Agriculture Minister Dr Ashok Bajpai represented Uttar Pradesh in the meeting.

Bajpai said the cases of dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and, malaria have been reported in various districts. “But outbreak of mosquito-borne disease has not been reported in epidemic form in any districts,” he said.

Bajpai informed the Union Minister that measures to prevent the outbreak of the disease had been taken and life saving drugs and required facilities for the patients were available in all the government hospitals.

In May, the State Government had directed the chief medical officers (CMO) of all the districts to take measures to prevent the outbreak of dengue and treatment of the patients. A work plan on dengue was prepared in August and dispatched to all the divisional commissioners, district magistrates, additional director medical health and CMOs for implementation.

The principal secretary medical health and family welfare AK Mishra said dengue control room had been established in each district. A rapid response team had been constituted to visit the districts in which cases of dengue had been reported and provide assistance to the local health officials. The health department was maintaining close vigil on the dengue cases and a nodal officer had been appointed in the health directorate, he said.
