'Centre working on Northeast Vision 2020'

Taking into account the aspirations, needs and sensitivities of the people of Northeast, the Centre is working on a blue print "Northeast Vision 2020" for the prospective development of the region.

"It would encompass all key sectors of the economy and the vast resource potential of the region. The vision document is being prepared through the process of participatory planning," Union Minister for Tribal Affairs PR Kyndiah said in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The document is likely to be finalised by the year-end, he said addressing the members of Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to his Ministry.

The Minister said the government has also set up a working group to identify infrastructural gaps and to suggest specific plans for the development of the Northeast to be taken up during 11th five year plan.

The group has the representatives of various central ministries including Road Transport, Power, Agriculture, Urban Development and Chief Secretaries of the Northeastern states.
