CHAOS prevailed at the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected mayor Anju Chaudhary at Court Club here on Friday.

Divisional commissioner Dr Moolchand Yadav administered the oath to Anju Chaudhary, who later administered oath to all the newly elected 70 corporators.
The mismanagement in the programme could be judged by the fact that the leader of opposition Lalji Tandon left the stage before addressing the gathering.
Samajwadi Party corporators Rajkumari Devi and Tahauwar Husain raised the demand that the corporator should be called on stage in-group to take oath, which was rejected by the municipal corporation officials. Officials planned to distribute the valuable gifts to the corporators. They had also arranged for a silver pot (symbol of Lord Bhim) for mayor Anju Chaudhary but at the last moment they postponed the programme, as the news regarding it was published in newspapers.
After taking the oath, mayor Anju Chaudhary said a planned, developed; green and beautiful city was her priority. She pledged to make direct contact with the residents and said that the problems face by the women would be on her priority.
Anju said Gorakhpur was fast expanding; new areas had come in preview of corporation. She also said fresh drinking water supply in the wards was her priority besides intensive fogging to avoid mosquitoes menace. She admitted that sanitation condition was pitiable and roads were pathetic.

Head priest of Gorakhnath temple Mahant Avaidyanath, local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal and Kamlesh Paswan were also present in the programme along with district magistrate Dr Hariom.
