Sources said Chavan has invited Deshmukh for a chat over dinner so that the two could sort out their differences. “The reconciliation meeting is likely to happen on Wednesday evening after Deshmukh files his nomination for Rajya Sabha elections,”said a key Congress leader requesting anonymity.

A cold war was on between the two leaders for the past four-five months as Chavan tried to gain control of the party unit in the state. Both hail from the Marathawada region (central Maharashtra) and know that they are threat to each other.

However, as the party top brass is planning to regain control of Maharashtra from its alliance partner National Congress Party (which won more seats than Congress in 2004 assembly elections), warring leaders of the party have been asked to work together.
