Uncapped Uttar Pradesh leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who was on Thursday picked in the Indian squad for the first Test against England, said he was hopeful of getting a call from the national selectors.
A star of the recently-concluded Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, Chawla said he would try to pay back the faith shown in him by the selectors by performing well in the match if given a chance.
"I was hopeful. Now that I have been selected, I would try to do well," he said.
"If I get a chance to play for the country, then I would try to bowl with discipline and maintain right line and length," he added.
Chawla, who performed well both with bat and ball in the domestic circuit notching up 42 wickets at an average of 23.57 and scoring 296 runs at an average of 24.66 in nine matches, forced his way into the Indian team as the third spinner ahead of the seasoned Murali Kartik.
The 18-year-old, however, admitted that despite his selection in the national team, he needed to perform well in the Deodhar Trophy match versus West Zone.
