"In view of the apprehensions over the functioning of EVMs, we request you to come up with a mechanism to enable candidates of all parties to randomly check EVMs in the presence of government employees. This will be in the larger interest of democracy and will help remove doubts," party spokesman K Kesava Rao said in a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishna Murthy.

While expressing "full faith" in the commitment and integrity of the Election Commission in the conduct of free and fair polls, he referred to apprehensions expressed in some quarters over possible default provision in the EVM software.

"In order to remove such doubts, we request you to permit the candidates of all political parties to random check atleast five per cent of the EVMs, a day before the polling," the memorandum said.
