Employees held placards and shouted slogans against the move on a day when seven officials of a company from France, which is believed to be acquiring the facility, visited the airport, airport sources said.

While two of the officials were with the airport director, the rest were near Gate 6 area, where protesters prevented them from inspecting the airport, they said.

Meanwhile, a minor scuffle erupted between CISF personnel and journalists as the one of the personnel prevented a woman journalist from entering the airport.

Later, the journalists were given passes.

The protests since morning disrupted free movement of passengers, who arrived in Chennai on Tuesday, sources added.
