Top police officials and IB officials in Chennai are questioning a Chinese national, Qiang Su, working with a private electronics firm at Sriperumbudur, for flying a drone without permission.
Su was spotted at Marina beach on Sunday operating a drone that he had bought online a few days ago.
The Chinese national was out having fun flying his drone. A crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the drone do its tricks. But a police team close by on patrolling duty soon surrounded him and took him in for questioning.
He is said to be unaware that he needed permission from the police and DGCA to fly an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), even a drone and this is what he maintained to the police.
Qiang Su, 27, is working as a business development manager with a private electronics firm and came to Chennai only a month ago.
He was later taken to Mylapore police station for questioning on Sunday night and was asked to appear before the police at the same station on Monday as well.
Senior police officials and a team of IB personnel were questioning him at the police station. On the face of it nothing looks suspicious, a police officer investigating the case said. But the drone has been taken and kept with the police, till the police officials take a final decision. His passport and visa are in order.
