THE CONTROVERSY surrounding the death of sub inspector Chetna Sharma has resurfaced again after a complaint lodged by her father Kedarnath Sharma with the National Women Commission alleging harassment of the police official by her superior the then Superintendent of Police Rajababu Singh. The NCW has also received a letter purportedly written by the sub inspector before her death.
According to police sources, Chetna Sharma had accused then SP Rajababu Singh of harassing her psychologically and physically. The letter is dated November 29, a day before she died.
The Commission had asked Director General of Police (MP) to file a reply on the issue. Police officials here, however, refused to comment on the case as the Crime Investigation Department was probing it.
Chetna Sharma’s body was found in a pool of blood in her government quarters in Bhind district. Her maid servant first discovered the body and neighbours, who had gathered on hearing her cries had informed the police.
Chetna’s parents had suspected murder and a bandh was organised in Bhind town on October 1 in protest. Later, it had acquired caste dimensions following demand of action against SP by Brahmin Mahabha and opposition by Kshatriya organisations.
Demand for CBI inquiry was also made. Bhind police, who investigated the case initially termed it as a case of murder but later changed its stance saying that it was a murder.

{{/usCountry}}The case is being investigated by IG CID Rina Mitra. SP Rajababu Singh has since been shifted, apparently to facilitate impartial probe in the case.
