According to an official state communication, the newly elected MLAs will be administered oath by the pro-term speaker, who is generally the senior-most MLA in the house by convention.

In the current session, there are two senior Congress MLAs who have reached Vidhan Sabha for seventh time- Bodhram Kanwar and Rampukar Singh. Either of them could become the pro-term speaker.

The first sitting of the session will be held on January 5 and the second one on January 9.

After the oath taking of MLAs during the first session, the election of the speaker will take place.

After the speaker's election, Governor E S L Narasimhan will address the House.

With the ruling BJP nominating Bilha MLA Dharamlal Kaushik for the speaker's post and the opposition Congress deciding not to put up any candidate, it is almost certain that Kaushik would be unanimously nominated as the speaker of the house.

During the second sitting, discussion will be held on the proposal over the vote of thanks to the Governor's address.
