Chikungunya samples in Bhind positive

NO FRESH cases of dengue were reported from anywhere in the State on Sunday, though at least 12 samples of suspected chikungunya patients from Bhind district sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) have tested positive indicating a possible epidemic in the region.

NO FRESH cases of dengue were reported from anywhere in the State on Sunday, though at least 12 samples of suspected chikungunya patients from Bhind district sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) have tested positive indicating a possible epidemic in the region.

State Control Room reported large number of chikungunya cases from Bhind, Morena, Dhar and even Sehore and following confirmation from NICD, an epidemic was being feared in Bhind area.

This, even as, Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi on Sunday in an official statement said both dengue and chikungunya were under control in the State and there was no need for people to panic. He urged people to be aware of preventive measures.

The Minister said the Government had made arrangements in hospitals for treatment of these diseases borne by Aedes mosquito and assured that adequate care would be taken of those admitted in private hospitals.

He said private hospitals had been directed to report any cases of the two diseases to the Government. He said arrangement of blood platelets (used for dengue treatment) has been made in four medical college hospitals and also symptomatic treatment facilities for chikungunya were available.
