Delhi Police have registered a case of child trafficking following a sting operation by a television channel exposing a racket where boys from children’s home like Prayas are being sold to unscrupulous elements.

The case was registered against Chandra Shekhar, working as an educator with Prayas. Shekhar, the police said, has been arrested and further investigations are on.

He had taken money and handed over three children to journalists posing as clients. These children would then be forced into various immoral trades, the police said.

“We have registered a case of child trafficking and arrested Chandra Shekhar,” said Anand Mohan, DCP (New Delhi).

In a statement, Prayas said it is “not connected with the alleged incident.” The NGO has taken serious action and handed over Chandra Shekhar to the police. He was also dismissed from service, the statement said.
