Children appear for admission to school in Maoist hit district

Over 600 tribal children, many from primitive tribes, trekked long distances to appear for a screening test for admission to schools in Orissa's Maoist-hit Malkangiri district.

Over 600 tribal children, many from primitive tribes, trekked long distances to appear for a screening test for admission to schools in Orissa's Maoist-hit Malkangiri district.

The cynosure of all eyes were 105 children of the primitive Bonda tribe who came from distant Mudulupada and Andrahal areas under Khairput block of the tribal-dominated district at the Kendriya Vidyalaya here yesterday, official sources said.

The children, some wearing new clothes, were from the seven blocks Malkangiri, Kalimela, Padia, Gorkunda, Khairput, Kudumulguma and Mathili.

The screening test was for admission to Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, government schools and English medium schools in the district.

A number of widows also attended the function for rehabilitation.
