Life was tough, path full of hurdles, but that did not deter them from realising their dreams.
And with a firm resolve these children of underprivileged families, like a vegetable vendor and a mechanic, proved their mettle by qualifying in medical entrance examination, results of which were declared recently.
Since resources were limited and books scarce, these students relied heavily on help from their teachers and fellow students.
Coming off with flying colours was Ashok Kumar, son of a vegetable vendor in Ahmedabad. He secured 328th rank in OBC category and 744th rank in the state in NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum-Entrance Exam) exam.
Not only that, Ashok secured 2,507th all-India rank (general) and 78tht all-India rank in OBC category.
“It was like a dream come true. I always wanted to live up to the expectations of my parents who wanted to see me become a doctor. They did a lot of sacrifice for me,” said an elated Ashok, who resides in Daraganj locality of the city.
Ashok was always an average student. But after putting in two years of hard work, he cleared the exam to become a doctor.
“I feel that financial crisis is not a barrier in way to success. All you need is hard work and a right kind of mindset,” he Ashok.

Similarly, Mohd Saif Ansari, son of Abrar Ahmed who runs a petty mechanic shop in Madihau in rural Allahabad, secured 182nd general rank and 72nd OBC rank in NEET-UG exam.
Interestingly, his elder brother Mohd Hamja, too, qualified the medical entrance exam last year.
