Chin up, it’s a survey

Just a thought. The extremely smooth survey conducted by Gillette India and AC Nielsen on the shaving habits of men in urban India has come up with the stat that 91 per cent of women get turned off by unshaven men. What if the empirical data coming in to the number-crunchers employed for the survey suggested otherwise? Would Gillette — a company that is rather keen that every man including the late WG Grace and the never-too-late Shibu Soren shaves — have packed their bags and set up another business? Perhaps in facial hair oil?But as the surveyors will tell us correctly, “That isn’t the case, is it, Smart Alecs?” To make their ‘findings’ more water-tight, they will, in fact, quote the other figure thrown up by the scientific headcount: 73 per cent of women are more likely to kiss a clean shaven men.One last bit: it would be interesting to find out how women react to stubble. That means not using Gillette products every day. Do we have that data as a footnote?
