China and India have maintained close high-level exchanges of visits and contacts in recent years, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Jiang Yu said here.

The frequent high-level visits and contacts have played an "irreplaceable important role" to build mutual trust, deepen understanding, and promote cooperation in various fields, Jiang told PTI in an interview ahead of Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing's first official visit to India from February 11 to 14.

"China looks forward to Prime Minister Singh's visit to China later this year," Jiang said when asked to comment on the preparations for the highest level of bilateral exchange planned for 2007.

"We believe this visit will further deepen and expand China-India Strategic and Cooperative Partnership," she said, referring to the upgraded bilateral ties in 2005 to strategic levels between the two Asian giants.
