China, a strong supporter of the Nepal royal family, on Saturday welcomed King Gyanendra's offer to hand over executive power to the people and hoped that it would help in "political reconciliation" in the Himalayan Kingdom.

China, as a friendly neighbouring country, hopes Nepal can recover peace and stability as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in Beijing.
Reacting to the latest political situation after Gyanendra's speech to the nation on Friday, Qin said China welcomes Nepalese King Gyanendra's offer, which, he said will be helpful for political reconciliation in the country.
