The National Conference on Saturday said that it was disappointed over the admission of some Congress leaders that their party workers indulged in cross-voting in Kashmir.

Additional general secretary of National Conference, Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal said that the NC would have to rethink about alliance with the Congress.

"It was shocking to hear from a minister like Taj Mohi-u-Din that some of the Congress workers voted for PDP candidate Muzaffar Hussain Beigh.

Our workers voted for the Congress in Jammu, but what they did in Kashmir was astounding and it shocked us all. We will definitely raise this matter with the Congress high command," Kamal said.

He added that the party was surprised after the news report that even Congress MLC Muzafar Parrey did not cast his vote.

Kamal said that it was a wrong notion that there was any kind of alliance between the National Conference and the Congress.

"It was a seat sharing agreement just to keep Peoples Democratic Party away from grabbing power.

We are waiting for the results and only after that our party will chalk out a strategy and take future course of action," he said.

National Conference legislator Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal told a local news agency CNS that Taj Mohi-u-Din failed to convince his own workers to vote for the coalition candidate. The allegations, however, were refuted by around 20 sarpanches owing allegiance to the Congress.

They rebutted the charges of working against the coalition candidate in the Baramulla parliamentary constituency.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the sarpanches said that they had been working hard for making coalition successful.

The sarpanches accused Shafi of working against the coalition candidate. "His son was conspicuous by his absence from a public meeting addressed by none other than Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Many NC workers were reported to be working as polling agents of the PDP," the statement read.
