The Indian-born Swede fired four birdies against three bogeys on the weather-hit which did not allow several players to complete their rounds.

Chopra started off well with a birdie on the first but dropped a bogey on the fourth. The Swede, however, made up for the lapse by firing birdies on the sixth and eighth to be two-under after completing his front nine.

His backward journey did not start as well and he dropped shot on the 10th. He bogeyed the 17th but a birdie on the previous hole helped his cause as he ended the day under-par.

At the top, former US Masters champion Mike Weir of Canada carded a nine-under 63 -- including five birdies on his final six holes -- to be the sole leader after the opening round.

Weir held a one-shot lead over Fijian Vijay Singh, who hit nine birdies against a solitary bogey, to be ahead of The Open champion American Tiger Woods (66).
