EVEN AS political parties have strongly condemned the brutal attack on a Christian assembly on Saturday, more than 24 hours later, the police have not arrested a single assailant so far.
The attack occurred in Govindpura area on Saturday morning causing injuries to at least eight people. While police said the hunt was on sources said, police had information about the identity of the attackers but no one was willing to come on record.
The attackers had come on different vehicles and the registration numbers and models of these vehicles could easily point towards their identity, sources added.
While most of the victims had come from other places residents of the area too were not willing to speak about the accused. The police have interrogated dozen-odd suspects until now. CSP SL Yadav said efforts were on to match the appearance of attackers as furnished by the victims to those of suspected troublemakers but nothing had materialised.

Over a dozen persons including three priests were injured in the incident. At least, three of them received grievous injuries. The police registered a case against unidentified persons but nothing has come out as yet.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the attack on Christians at a prayer house in Govindpura area on Saturday by suspected Bajrang Dal activists.
CPM State organisation secretary Vinay Dwivedi alleged the incident was an attempt to foment communal trouble. The State Government and administration must take adequate steps to identify and punish the miscreants responsible for the attack, he added.
CPM State secretary Bahadur Singh Dhakad blamed the State Government for giving shelter to the accused, adding that the government was doing so to divert public attention from the prevalent infighting within the BJP.
The State wing of All India Women’s Association also condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against the suspected Bajrang Dal activists.
Association’s State president Sandhya Shaili said the incident had spread a sense of fear among minority communities of the State.
