The saga of Shibu Soren, who earned the dubious distinction of being the first union minister to be convicted for murder, began 13 years ago.
July 1993: Shibu Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) votes against a no-confidence motion in parliament to save the Narasimha Rao government allegedly for a price.
May 1994: Soren's personal assistant Shashi Nath Jha, who apparently knew about the bribes, reported missing.
1998: Jha's skeleton exhumed, CBI files chargesheet against Soren and others in the Jha murder case.
2004: Soren joins the Manmohan Singh government as coal minister.
July 2004: Soren resigns after an arrest warrant was issued against him for his alleged involvement in mass killing in his native place.
March 2, 2005: Appointed chief minister of Jharkhand.
March 11, 2005: Resigns as chief minister after failing to get majority.
Jan 2006: Re-inducted into Manmohan Singh's cabinet as coal minister.
Nov 2006: Convicted for abduction and murder of Jha.
